So, who of You is coming to the Beachparty at the 22nd in Cologne/Köln?
The winners of the German Petfluencer Awards will be announced and also Christian Vieler will be there to take his famous pictures.
There will be an underwater photo shooting, an agility event and much more.
@tony_petfluenceragency is organizing the event, be sure to leave them a message if you want to join last minute.

I would love to be there, but I am not certain I will be able to manage. I am currently travelling to the Hunsrück to meet Friends and next week I will take care of Hadez, Kaihu, Roja and Ninja while Frank and Raphaela are away.
.
This means we would be again have to travel 1000km to be at the show and need a place to sleep around Köln. Right now with all the other stuff that is going on behind the scenes I am not certain I can manage the organization. I will be looking for a solution though as I would really like to meet some of the people here on Instagram that I know already that they will be there.
.
Hence the question who else will be there. Possibly it would make the incentive to not miss out on it.
.
I know Ninja would love to be there 😊 He finds large events interesting and loves to observe everything.
.
As we are in our way right now, The Sender Blauen ist in our list today… We can actually see it from the terrace in the far distance. I have been told the sight is supposed to be spectacular.
This means I won’t be able to edit new pictures the next days and I hope you do not mind that I cover the days with some older pictures.

I am still writing on our Interview with @derhund_official and have been selecting my favorite pictures today. This is definitely one of them.
.
Taken with a more than 40 year old lens in manual mode it does resemble my love for vintage glass and a super trained dog that won’t move while you set the focus. Even 10cm ( 3-4 inches ) back or forth would mean the picture is no longer in focus.
.
…and then „The Look“ I cannot even put it in words. I lack the vocabulary in German and English to describe it. My heart just melts and I think, wow Ninja looks so gorgeous and then it all gets blurry and I just want to hug him.
Don’t know what effect it has on others but I am just proud that I am the chose human for Ninja… Maybe it is a bit in „awe“… It just makes me happy.

When Frank and Raphaela leave the house, the dogs like to spend a few more hours sleeping before they start to walk around the house, usually it is Ninja – I am certain Kaihu and Hadez send him to me – who looks around the corner first to see if I am still sleeping. If I don’t move they try 10 minutes later… If I move a whole lot of energy and joy unfolds while Ninja jumps on the bed to greet me, followed by Hadez and Kaihu who all demand some morning cuddles. It is their way of telling me that they want to go outside and our daily morning ritual.

Finally I finished some paperwork and communications that were on my to do list for quite some time. It was difficult to start as I was aware of this every time I started working on something else. Now it is like a big rock that fell from my shoulders.
.
The next week I will be travelling around a bit to make pictures, if you have a really cool location in the South West of Germany I should visit, let me know. rocks, caves, lakes castle ruins, lost places… spectacular views, creeks or very deep dense dark mossy forests will do.
For now I might want to look at the Geierlay, Audi Nines in Birkenfeld, Blauen Mountain, Kalmit, Green Lake ( Dietesheim ), Bingen, Castle Daun (and especially the meadows above ) and places around Dahn. Not certain, what I can manage to visit, so more input is always welcome 😊

If You have seen our Story last evening, we were making apple crumble and we just wanted to taste a bit and 15 minutes later half the cake had vanished 🤤🥧
.
I spent half the night putting together 400 pictures of a rain storm over #basel into a video. Always when making a picture to show the spectacular view, it just can’t compare to standing here and gazing into the distance. Sometimes there is this magic light at sun set as well as the fantastic view with all the colorful lights at night.
So I thought a short timelapse could capture the magic. You can check it out in todays story.

In the morning I drove Frank to the train station – after 1h32 sleep 🤪 – and brought Ninja with us.
Ninja is the only dog that gets up with us this early and I do not want to leave him behind and at the same time want to reward him for joining us.
So we usually stop at the hill between Basel and the house to let Ninja sniff and walk around. He loves doing that… I think tomorrow I will bring the camera and try to make some sunrise pictures… You can see the live video as well.

Is I am more a night owl than an early bird… Love that there are little distractions and I can totally focus at my tasks.
.

Today we have a mechanic here to fix the dishwasher, so I find it difficult to focus on a good text.
.
I’ll just address some of Your questions.

Q: Why is Ninja fed so far away from the others.
A: This is a false perception. We like to have a couple of meters between all dogs, so theY can eat in peace and not feel pressured b the others.
Hadez for example gives up his food when Kaihu demands it… This is why Kaihu gets fed in the living room and Hadez in the kitchen. We can always stop Kaihu from prematurely demanding Hadez‘ food.
Hadez, Roja are fed in the kitchen, a few meters apart as well.
Ninja is usually fed just outside for practical reasons, it is the shortest way from the kitchen and he is not further away from Roja than Roja is from Hadez and Kaihu would be from Hadez ( we would stumble all over him so he is 2m further )
So technically they are equally far away from each other.
Sometimes, in the morning neither Hadez or Ninja ear a lot. Then I can offer Hadez to get into the garden over guarding his food ( from Ninja or Roja ), which is an option he will always take and I can just close the door to have Ninja isolated in the hallway which sometimes makes him eat in the morning.
.
If I did not let Hadez out first Ninja and Roja might walk by Hadez which would make him feel uneasy and I just like to avoid that.
.
Q: Don’t feel pressured to post/show a picture of You
A: if You know me, I would never do something on purpose which I do not want to. Sometimes it is ok to test Your boundaries, but I am old enough to know what feels good and where to stop. I most likely had my reasons to post it the way I did 😉
.
This picture has been taken at the #glacier3000 and I just love Ninja staring down I to the valley. Really loved being there. By the way… It has been 3 weeks since my mail and the glacier people still did not reply 😆 what a bummer.
.

„Michael we want a picture of You!“

Well, this account is about Ninja, not me. Nevertheless I have a solution for You. Here is a picture I tried to take of Ninjas eyes… But when zoomed in, I noticed that you can recognize me and the place I took it at…
You can see that not only Ninja has a cheeky smile but also I do. Ninja was turning his head away to appease me, while I was getting closer and closer with the long lens and the focus rings. It was even laying on Ninjas nose to stabilize which made him want to look away even more so.
.
The picture as a macro and close up fails for sharpness. The picture is as embarrassing as it gets, unshaven, sloppy clothes, messy hair but nevertheless it became one of my all-time favorites.
.

Thank You for all the touching and heartfelt comments and direct messages.
A few years ago I was unable to leave the house in daylight and withdrew myself from the world. With the help of friends and last but not least Ninjas amazing personality I was able to overcome this.
So when you write that Ninja cheers you up, that You look at his when when you are sad it makes me happy. I remember how it felt and I love that I can improve the touch the mood of so many people sharing our life with You.
.
So we are part of the 4 finalist for the German Petfluencer Jury Awards and the winner will be announced by September 22nd.
.
Aside that there is the Audience Award, where the winner will get a shooting with Christian Vieler.
There are so many dogs with amazing photograph and interesting stories that I encourage to check them out.
I think it would be great to vote for other dogs than Ninja. What?!? 😆
The reason is that we already had a fantastic shooting with Christian Vieler and I would prefer if other dog owners would get the same opportunity to work with Christian Vieler and Josera. I know a couple of competitors who crave for a chance to take part in the shooting. I will leave a link in the Bio until September 1st.

I have answered many messages the past days and one that often came up is about Ninja’s training.
.
Ninja was 2 years old when I got him and I was not certain if he would bind to me as a puppy would.
I know my previous dog Akiak loved me but he also thought I was boring and paid attention to everything but me, once we are outside.
This is when I learnt about positive reinforcement, where you – in a nutshell – reward positive behavior.
I did, for about half of his daily food ration, make tricks with Ninja. He quickly learnt the basics and started offering behavior, when he was uncertain what to do. This way I could step by step teach him new stuff. For example when I taught him to find his leash, I rewarded looking into the direction, then moving, then touching the leash. This way Ninja knew that I wanted him to touch the leash and would go find it to complete the task.
.
To make myself interesting I dried chicken hearts in a stove and put salmon oil on top of them. For me it was a bit disgusting, but the dogs loved it. They came from everywhere, even passerby dogs that had great obedience dashed off and demanded treats.
So I used really high value treats and rewarded Ninja as soon as he showed any form of attention towards me. When he looked at me, when he stays close he got two rewards. He quickly learnt that it is valuable – and he isn’t a good driven dog – that it pays off to stay near me.
When he was distracted at the end of the tow line I would hide a goodie in treebark, in a tuft of grass, on top of a bench, in a hike and I would do nothing but look at the spot. Ninja wondered what was going on and quickly found out that it is rewarding to come to me, to pay attention to what I pay attention to…
.
This, daily handfeeding and training for about 2 years… is the basis of what you see here. Ninja enjoys to do these tricks.

You know, all this would not be possible without my good friends. You know Frank, from @kaihu_und_hadez and I mentioned Raphaela who is active behind the scenes. But there are also other friends Hilde, Esther or HaJo who I momentarily do not see as often as I’d like to. They have always been there for me. Thank You very much ♥️
.
The past days have been quite warm again, the dogs prefer to stay inside. So we take it a bit slow. For that reason, here is one of my favorite older pictures. Hope you like it 😊

I have been asked about meet ups. Frankly as an Asperger These are never really easy as it takes a while to get used to new people.
I am shy, yeah really and face the usual problems. I do not like to shake hands, I’ll feel extremely uncomfortable when I get a hug and can’t look into the eye and can talk endlessly about my focus interests. I suck at small talk and prefer more profound topics… When I am in Mainz, I have no car and just a small apartment so I prefer walks in our forests or along the riverside. Basically I know the area and feel comfortable, which helps me to ease the getting to know people. It still takes a while though.
When we are visiting our friends close to Basel it is easier to get to places as I most likely have a car, but at the same time 4 dogs instead of just one.
So either way it is always best for me, and thus more likely to happen, if people visit me.
We had visitors from all over Europe, which I usually do not advertise much, because I am too shy to ask, too shy to make pictures unless someone asks me to 😄
The shame is that I would really like to try to improve my people photography skills and all of the afore mentioned obstacles stand in the way. I do not have many portraits that I can show of and promise people ‚Here is what I can do!‘ but would like to learn it with a person that is kind of willing to try. I have a whole bunch of ideas where I want to get to, what pictures to take.
To take good pictures I need to be in my comfort zone, so it would need to be someone who is willing to repeat this from time to time, because each time it would be easier and easier for me.
So these are my general thoughts on meet-ups.
