The next heatwave is coming… I always melt when the temperatures rise and do not like to spend too much time outside.
This morning, after I brought Frank to the railway station I wanted to visit the rocks behind Liestal, close to Basel 🇨🇭 But as it was like 6:00 when we left the house I had forgotten the camera and the leash… I returned home. Hadez, Roja and Kaihu appeared to be sleeping. So I snatched camera and gear to look for a nice new place to hike. We found a few nice spots already close to Rheinfelden and and Eichsel, so I decided to aim for a tower on a mountain top. I can always see it from the balcony and wonder if there is a nice view from there… Being the tallest mountain and such. At the same time I also did not want to drive too far… So when I saw a beautiful pine Forest – I still look for a very dark pine, with lots of needles or moss on the ground close to Basel – and we stopped to take a hike into the valley. Beautiful spots were everywhere and I did not pay attention to the little bugs that pestered us in hope for a little meal 😄
Hoping for the perfect spot with soft morning sun we dived deeper into the cool forest. All of a sudden I had 4 horse-flies on my chest and it felt like a gazillion of their brothers and sisters arrived and I was cursing and wagged my arms like a mad man in defense. This must have been a fun view 🤪
I let Ninja off the leash and used the leash as a propeller to fend the horse flies off while retreating to the car.
200m before reaching the car I remembered that I wanted to take pictures and sent Ninja into a field where he hopped around the happy dog he is.
You can clearly see how happy he was…
I am glad that we made the best of the cool morning and hope we will have better luck next time 😊

Exactly 4 years ago we had a great day at the Cauma Lake in Flims 🇨🇭
.
Wolfdogs are not very common in Europe. Sure, you can meet the occasional Saarloos or Czechoslovakian Wolfdog,
The community is rather small and since we are all crazy about our animals we sometimes travel hundreds of kilometers to meet up. This is what we did 4 years ago… We came together to walk in the beautiful mountains at Flims.
Hadez was still a baby and the hike was a bit long for him and needed to be carried 😊 Then there was Kaihu ( @kaihu_und_hadez ), Lupo and Ely ( @indira_lupo_ely_wolfdogs ) , Aponi ( @eklliker72 )
.
The hike was beautiful, quite versatile… woods and lakes, while also open and with beautiful peaks towering us and a tiny river Rhine below us (the Rhine is half a mile ( 800m ) across in Heidesheim 😄 )
.

I was going to take a warm sunset picture inside this field, but I am currently watching it being harvested… 😐
Guess that is what happens when you do not pursue your ideas as they come to our minds.
I also like this picture, it was taken at sunrise 1 or 2 weeks ago and I liked how Ninja looked in this field… he is such a cheerful dog, can You see it?
.
Our life has improved a lot the past couple of years… The Asperger diagnosis and following support with paperwork and authorities by an organization took a lot of weight of my shoulders. I do appreciate that a lot. I am calm and relaxed like I haven’t been in the past 10 years.
.
The biggest impact to our lives have been our friend @kaihu_und_hadez . Who would have thought, 4 year ago, that a crazy direct message would have grown into such a friendship.
I enjoy visiting Frank, but it is not the house and lovely landscape here in Switzerland us that I value the most… It is being accepted as who You are with all the quirks.

It is still so warm… the river provides some cool water and shadowy spots.
.
Ninja has never been very interested in toys. There was a little donkey, a Ninja-duck he often carried around to his favorite spot. But he never really played or care much about toys.
The past weeks however he is carrying around a tug-of-war toy wherever he goes 😆
He realized that it has value for the other dogs, e.g. Kaihu or Hadez and by claiming it he tries to raise his status. While Kaihu does not take Ninja serious, it helped to elevate his status with Hadez.
I also enforce this by taking Ninja with me when doing errands, e.g. picking someone up from the train station.
This special treatment… while Kaihu, Hadez and Roja stay home support Ninjas newly found self confidence. Previously Ninja constantly took himself back, avoided conflict. Seeing Ninja growing his self confidence and showing others therboundaries makes me happy.

It is like day 10 of a heatwave and it is hard to bear. It is hardly cooling down at night and basically the lat nights are the only times I feel somewhat comfortable. I don’t feel like spending much time outside and the dogs feels alike.
.
They prefer the cool tiles over a walk at daytime. They go out, even to lay in the sun, and a few minutes want to return inside.
.
So we go out at 22:00 or at 6:00 for our walks.
So I apologize for the lack of posts as I don’t want to recycle too much older content and currently we only get pictures of Ninja panting and panting and not being in the mood for pictures. I do not want to push him towards things he does not want to… I am sure You understand 🙂
.
Hopefully it will cool down soon. The days are already becoming shorter and winter is coming 😆😆

Two Videos, do not forget to swipe 😊

Here You can see a small playing session with Ninja.
We start of with cuddles, Inka loves cuddles…
He eyes at Hadez form @kaihu_und_hadez who passes behind him, but is really relaxed and enjoys the chest-rubs.
You can see his eyes getting a bit sleepy.
When Ninja got enough cuddles he wants to go back inside, but instead I try to motivate Ninja to interact with me.
.
On a superficial note you can see a playful command and obbey, but to us it is ‚playtime’… We have fun together.
You can spot the difference at the start, when I insist that Ninja should lay down, while he still wants to go back inside. But then I follow with some easy commands and it starts to become fun.

I try to get Ninja to talk in the second video. He does enjoy it. You can see that the commands are now more energetic and he loves it. Then I stop the game and reward Ninja with cuddles 😊

Summer flowers are sprouting everywhere and it is becoming hot. Neither Ninja or me are made for the heat. Basically every picture of him has him panting.
So instead of trying to get a serious face I tried getting a cute one 😊 and put him inside these flowers on the side of the path.
It was around 6:30 am and still comfortably cool, with the rising sun casting a tiny bit of warmth to the cheeks.
.
After we returned home, Raphaela and me took the whole bunch for an extended walk before it was becoming too warm for them.
Ninja still has not fully blown his undercoat and wepay attention to not ask too much of them.
.
I would love to go live but all you’d see are dogs laying in the shadows or on the cool tiles. Ninja takes every chance he gets to return inside. If you do not mind to see lazy dogs on a live stream, let me know 😊

People often wonder why I sometimes make pictures and why I sometimes don’t.
There is usually just a quick scan…
Is the sun in the correct position ( e.g. hard shadows ) is there an interesting background, can I frame Ninja, etc…
.
At other spots people just pass by and I have an instant vision of the picture I want to take.
I tried explaining it, but lack the eloquence to put this into words… Hence I made a video to demonstrate what is there versus what I see…
.

Phew it is and has been quite warm the last couple of days. It is 28°C/83°F right now.
The dogs want to stay inside and are happy to get small frozen (lightly thawed) goodies.
I like to use yogurt and put a bit cheese, sausage or meat inside, freeze it up and give it to the dogs as goodies.
.
Ninja still has a lot of undercoat which basically means breaks around in a warm winter jacket and is panting a lot to cope with the heat. We try to avoid noon and afternoon walks and prefer the morning/evening hours.
This morning e.g. we have been at the meadows on a Hil here at 6:30 just in time to watch the sun rise and cares our cheeks.
I try not to give him too much to do right now and slowly brush him every day a little to get the lose undercoat out as well as encourage him to drop more of his undercoat.
It happens really quickly that dogs can overheat. It did already happe once that Ninja overheated and I am very careful not to repeat that again. I rather skip the walkies or whatever activities I had planned than asking too.

Sitting next to Ninja and watching him you will notice all his different faces.
I like to spend a lot of time in the forest, but it is not as we are walking huge distances… Maybe 3-5 miles and occasionally more… I think the max we walked together was something about 18 miles. I had a nice walking buddy that liked to ease the mind walking.
.
Right now it has become quite warm, today is the hottest day of the year so far and the dogs do not even want to leave the house… They are laying on the cool tiles and occasionally stand up to find a cooler spot.
.
So when we are walking I like to find a nice quiet spot where we can observe the landscape or where I can watch Ninja.
.
This is Ninja’s typical face, where he is happy or at least content and does neither want to lay down or move on. He found something he finds mildly interesting and observes. His ears are not put forward but to the sides. He is relaxed and his body is not under tension.
This means Ninja would stay at my side without being reminded. If I looked at Ninja now he would turn his head towards me and give me some kisses 😙
