As usually when I posts video there are controversial replies.
.
„I am happy that my dog has fun without having to make a fool out of myself“
.
„The poor dog is not a machine!“
.
„You are too strict!“
.
„Just let him be a dog!“
.
„What is all the obedience good for?“
.
When I got Ninja he had for the most part lived in an enclosure. He had lots of contact to dogs, and found them to be a lot more interesting than humans.
I wanted to change that, make him realize that here is fun, love and care coming from me.
But outside he simple ignored me… I wanted to change that, rewarded every tiny bit of attention towards me with high value treats ( dried chicken hearts soaked in salmon oil, all dogs within 100m no longer obeyed their owners and came towards me to beg 😁 ).
I rewarded Ninja for even looking at me to make him realize that it pays off to pay attention and be close to me. Then I varied the tricks, threw some goodies to the side, stood still and waited for him to become curious what I found… His reward was coming and finding the goodie.
I hid stuff in tree barks, on tables, in little holes… Basically I raised my value by showing him where to find good stuff… Whenever we stood still he came to check things out…
This is the point where I slowly reduced the rewards to quality kibble…
Parallel I handfeed Ninja every day for tricks… It was not about obedience or him functioning like a machine… it was all about bonding.
I was afraid, that Ninja – being 2 years old as I got him – would not bond with me as a puppy would… The obedience was a side effect…
Of course it was nice to see how well Ninja listens, what a great model Ninja became, how well I can direct Ninja to a spot… But the goals was just to bond.
Sometimes I am a bit frustrated, when he is distracted and thus misses the perfect moment for a shot, but I am aware that he is not a machine and I am aware that he needs to have fun and activities… But if You think this capture from the video shows an unhappy dog that is being treated badly then You are a fool.
Don’t be judgemental from a single video… You can ask me questions and I will answer them as I prove to about 50-100 people a day.

When we had a little bit of snow I took Ninja for a hike and wanted to show him dashing around.
.
We were just a few steps from a popular hiking trail and all the time we had passerbys.
.
This is why Ninja was a bit unfocused as you can clearly see in the video. He is distracted and does mistakes.
.
For example the „Turn Right“ command did not work very well.
This is because I taught Ninja the turn left first and you can always see how much more enthusiastic Ninja does the „Turn Left“.
.
I could either correct him, or let him his fun and give him easier commands to follow. You can hear with my voice that I tried a stricter tone, but it was not fruitful… I would correct him while training Ninja, but here when it is just about having fun I chose to let it slip.
.
Just wanted to show You this ‚imperfect‘ clip… Ninja is not a machine, he has good days and sometimes Ninja is a bit unfocused. There is nothing to be done about it… For this day I chose to tag along with it.

Finally we got some snow… Usually I would spend those next hours here on IG, but I am so eager to get out 😋
.
We made a live video with Ninja goofing around a bit and doing some basic training stuff… Maybe you like it, if You have not seen it before it expires.

Wish You a happy weekend 😊😊

Hope You all started well into the new year. I took a few days off.
.
One of the activities we do to power out Ninja is bike-jöring.
Basically we put him ( up to 15°C ) in front of the bike and let him pull us the speed he wants to go.
Especially together with other dogs together Ninja has become really motivated to do so 😊
.
After the pulling they get a very high level reward. Especially Hadez is always the first to look for the rewards when we return home.
A few days ago I stayed at home while Raphaela and Frank from @kaihu_und_hadez took the dogs for a tour.
When they returned home I stood in the house and welcomed them waving my hands.
One of the sweetest things then happened… Hadez was totally happy to see me and even put his reward second over greeting me. He ran up the stairs towards me and eagerly enjoyed his cuddles before he dashed down to get his reward for pulling. This was such a lovely moment.
.
Again, Hadez and me were not always such good buddies. When Hadez matured he was grumpy to Ninja to test himself out and I was grumpy at Hadez for doing so.
Through another dog, some might remember Smilla, I got to understand that power struggles are useless and that respecting the dog actually brings You further with wolfdogs.
So it showed more and more that this worked really well with Hadez and every now and then I have moments as the one above where he shows me that he likes me very much just because I let him be who he is.
.
Anyway just a little story about Hadez ❤️

The last days of the year are always somewhat busy…
Usually I spend about 4-5 hours a day on Instagram alone… 5-8 hours on hikes, taking pictures, editing pictures and some more of giving Ninja the attention and affection he needs.
.
It is not ‚work‘ and enjoy what I am doing and try to be kind and nice… So far the unpleasant experiences have been an absolute minimum and I am happy about that.
It also makes me happy when I get feedback on photography, Ninja or even the stuff I mention about how I trained Ninja.
I would sometimes really love to showcase these messages of appreciation & comments.
Fact is that despite the constant image theft (which really annoys me) these messages and the engagement here are the things that fuel this account and give me the energy to keep going.
.
So I wanted to thank all of You for Your wonderful support this year and I hope You are here to stay and look forward to take part in our life next Year as well.

Yesterday we spent the day in the Black Forest, Bernau… It is a Winter Sports Area, but sadly we did not find any snow.
.
Nevertheless we loved hiking along the snowless cross-country skiing trail and found some sweet spots for pictures.
At some point we had to switch the trails and while moving over a pasture I noticed this little bump and also the light was perfect for the moment 😊😊
.
Ninja was observing @kaihu_und_hadez
who had already moved on. I am glad to make another stop for this picture even thought I was already tired. Ninja obviously wasn’t, yet 😛
No matter when, he is always ready to get a great picture taken. .

We are now „in-between the years“. Christmas lies behind us and the New Year is right around the corner.
.
We do have a lot of plans for next year that I am looking forward to. Switzerland, Austria, Sweden and to meet up with others more often.
.
I would also like to include some people now and then with our pictures. Let me know if You are interested.
.
Tomorrow we’ll be going to Freiburg, one of my favorite German Cities, close to the Black Forest🌲🌲, and we might go hike in the Area… Or possibly look for some snow around the Feldberg… Well… I will let You know tomorrow.
.
Wish You a happy time in-between the Years and for the New Year and afterwards 😊😊

Trying to get a nice Christmas capture of Ninja I managed to get this instead.
A few weeks ago I made some seriousky beautiful shots of Frank’s watch using plexiglass as a reflection surface and of course wanted to see if it would work out to get a nice reflection of Ninja as well… I think it kind of worked out really nice.
So, it is not a composite, but a real picture… Just darkened the plexiglass a bit to remove the edge 😊
.
I wish You all a Merry Christmas 🌠🎄😊🎁

Some of You may have seen the preview of this in yesterday’s Story.
We had a visitor… cute little Pixel came to visit us. With Roja, Kaihu, Hadez and Ninja we have 4 large dogs and Pixel was a bit shy at the start.
There is a one minute limit to videos and I chose to show the introduction process more than the play, because it really showed how Ninja’s passive behavior made little Pixel in small steps self confident…
At first she avoided Ninja, but then she stood in front of him and he sniffed at her. Her tail is still between the legs but she seems contact.
As Roja was a bit jealous she growled under the Table and Pixel went really close to Ninja.
Ninja was nice to her and she started to climb and jump on top of Ninja… and to test her boundaries 😂
Ninja shaked Pixel of as she was jumping on his throat but engaged in play afterwards…
I think all these stages are good to see and I wanted to show You how gentle he is with small dogs.
.
Hope You like it, too 😁

Last night I posted a video of Roja in a red suit and got many reactions to it.
.
The suit is actually not a joke. It is a snow suit made for dogs.
When Nordic breeds go into the snow their fur is made for that kind of weather. It keeps them well isolated and warm… They can even ( if they had the chance to grow their undercoat ) sleep in the snow. If snow falls it will fall on top of them and they will slowly be covered by snow.
.
Other breeds are made for other reasons… Roja is a King’s Poodle and they have a special fur… It keeps growing and never falls off…. While having a husky means to have the carpet covered in fur when he sheds ( and in-between 😉 ), having a poodle means that there won’t be hair in the house. Instead you need to shave the poodle occasionally because the hair keeps growing.
Their fur is also not made for being outside in the snow. Snow will stick to the hair at the legs, at the chest and she might tear out her hair when she moves with large balls of snow on her.
Hypothermia is also a problem.
An easy fix for that is to use the snow suit she wore in the story picture and to use some boots.
This way she can enjoy dashing around in the snow with the rest of the pack.
.
This morning we have been bike-jöring through the forest. While Ninja did not pull uphill, he really enjoyed dashing full speed on even grounds and downhill.
We have let Hadez ( @kaihu_und_hadez ) and Ninja pull together and they have become a great team.
