As You may have seen I spent many hours to answer direct messages yesterday that piled up while I was travelling and busy doing behind the scenes stuff.
.
I still have a lot open concerning my training methods… Ninja was not easier, than any other husky.
In fact Esther, where I got Ninja from warned me that he was lazy and naughty, he“d only know how beautiful life can be… „Just like You!“… „Please what?!?!“ 😆
.
Ninja found it cool to go on hikes with me, but totally ignored me outside… He was having fun.
.
A trainer told me many years ago, that I am too boring… Why should a dog pay attention to me? So with that in mind I no longer gave Ninja food as a regular meal.
Instead I used the food on our hikes whenever paid the slightest bit attention to me. Sometimes, I stopped walking, threw a pellet to the side and looked at it… It may have taken 5 minutes but eventually he was curious enough to check out what I was looking at… I hid pellets in the bark of trees, threw them into tall grass, digged then in… and within a short period of time he knew that it pays off to watch what I am doing… and to cooperate.
Additionally I did handfeed Ninja… Each day for tricks… I had to find new tricks to teach… and eventually trained him in quiet places outside… then at busy places… then at busy places with distraction… I taught him impulse control by lot letting him eat certain treats and allowing others… So he learnt to pay more attention to me 😊😊

The method I use is positive reinforcement and marker training…
It was not an easy start. It was frustrating, especially at the start… I was in over my head, I was impatient, expected too much…
.
But I continued the training, every day… and eventually started to understand him and Ninja started to cooperate… all of a sudden it worked well as I noticed that we bonded… it became fun and we both enjoyed our daily ritual…
.
I am no dog trainer and can’t give you advice on how to train YOUR dog… but I am certain, if you read about positive reinforcement and marker training and advance the training in little steps of 5 minutes a days you will likely see some results…

My longing for snow lets me dig out old pictures I have never deemed good enough to post…

Sometimes I take pictures hit can’t find a way to properly edit the pictures… I mean they look nice… but not as I want them to look.
When I take and edit pictures I want You to feel or see how I experienced this moment.
Look at this shot… it was in the mids of a snowstorm, dark moody and really cold… but it did not matter to me as I saw Ninja move around and he was just so happy and that brightened the gloom around us… I could have hugged him right away… so I changed the mood from dark to nice, because that is how I remember the moment… and that is how I want to share it.
.
Ninja had the day of his life in all the snow… his thick fur preventing the body heat to melt the snow and he was covered in frost… it took a snowstorm and an abandoned hike to get these pictures… but I love them.
.
Now I edited the picture in a way that makes me happy to think about the day and wonder why I always thought it was so bad…

One of my favorite settings was this time of hoar frost ❄☃️

We never had similar weather again in the past 5 years and I regret that I did not do more pictures at the time.
It was very cold at night, and the morning sun managed to melt just a tiny fraction of the hoar frost, before fog from the riverside ( it steams in winter, filling the valley with fog ) covered it and the remaining cold branches and grass let it freeze all over again… this repeated for 3 days and the hoar frost had huge crystals that appeared as if they were snow. Yesterday’s picture had been taken 10 minutes prior this one.
.
I used an old Minolta 50mm 1.4 lens for it’s really fine contrast. As it is quite difficult to manually focus on a dog, I took my time and Ninja got bored and closed his eyes… it appears as if he inhales the beautiful morning mood and that is why I love this picture with his eyes closed.
As if he was contemplating the beauty of that day…
Also I like the contrast of the white frosty grass and the dark Ninja coat color, which appears a lot darker as soon as it becomes clouded.

Think it was one of my first popular pictures and I still love it.

As You heard I was on a day trip 1 day 800km, and returned safely last night.
Initially I had planned to leave Ninja at home, but he grew increasingly restless when I started packing my things. He would have been with close friends, that would have taken good care of him…
But Ninja did not leave my side anymore and even growled at the other dogs when they wanted to distract… he was distressed, so I decided to take him with me.. figured the 7 hours in the car would be eventually better than leaving him behind.
In between the appointments we joined a packwalk which Ninja truly enjoyed. He is always very interested with new smells when we go to a new place 😊 and meeting some old friends again.
In the evening the whole pack greeted him happily and he loved to be back.
I find it interesting how well Ninja bonded with me… I got Ninja when he was 2years old and feared back then that he would never bond with me as a puppy would… so I am happy that he did… maybe because he lost his previous owner and it makes being absent from me even harder for him than a dog that did not suffer a loss like this before… I do not know… just a wild guess.
I rarely let him leave my side as I moss him just as much ❤

This is Ninja’s play-face… he is watching Hadez and waits for the perfect opportunity to dash towards him.
.
The past days I spent the evenings at the PC and noticed a new behavior.
When I got Ninja I thought a good way to show him, that he can always come to me is to stop whatever I am doing when he seeks attention or comes to me.
So I am used to stop whatever I am doing and give him some cuddles.
So, I am not surprised that he co.es to me in the evening… he waits for some cuddles and goes to my bedroom… 5 min later he asks for cuddles again… but goes to the bedroom 10 seconds later… he repeated that… until I realized that Ninja asks me to stop working and go sleep ❤
So we went to the bedroom and Ninja enjoyed some cuddles, this time for a good 20 minutes before he decides to leave the bed and sleep…
I think this behavior is too cute…

We do currently have no snow… a year ago however it was different… so I use this Throwback Thursday to show an older snow picture while we are looking forward to the first real snow.
.
We are often not alone… most of the time we go walk with friends. In the back you can see Ninjas son @kaihu_und_hadez you may have heard of him before 😂 once or twice.
.
I get a lot of weird requests of people who want to meet us, and most of the meetings we had turned out really fun. I always try to get to know the people and find it interesting, especially if they are different from me… no matter where they are from.
.
With Frank however he became my best friend over the past 4 years and was always there for me. It all started with a crazy message… it turned out that we are the same kind of crazy…
We supported each other and he was there for me when I was sick this summer.
There are like 3 people I would trust to properly take care of Ninja. I asked him and he drove across half Germany to take care of Ninja. Thank You Frank for being my friend 🤗
.
Slowly I am feeling better again, my lungs work good. I do not smoke btw, I would really dislike to throw so much money out of the window and buy gummy bears instead!
The guy that wrote the odd message apologized by the way… I think that takes some spine as well. Thank You.

So here you can see Ninja jumping around extremely happy. He will throw his front paws as far ahead as he can and almost lose balance while doing so.
When You see Ninja dash around like this you can be certain that he is super happy. This is usually when there is snow, when I address him as well as as when he sees someone he has not seen in a while 😊
He also throws his head from side to side doing this 😊
.
Sometimes he also does it when I come back from the cellar, because he knows that I have something special for him 😊😊
.
I bet there are also other cute quirky behaviors that express happiness.

I can’t count the messages I got about Ninja being a wolf, wolf mix or wolfdog… most likely they have been in the thousands… yes more than 1000…
.
I mean I do not mind answering them all over and do understand that people tend to overlook the FAQ Story Highlight and the descriptions. It is easier to just send a message… if I would not want to cope with that I should not run an account like this.
.
But what gets me is when people do not believe me and call me out. When they do not believe the paperwork and all knowledge they have is that they have never seen a Siberian Husky as Ninja.
This is one reason I decided to cooperate with @embarkvet but also to get the coat color testing and especially their screening for 170 genetic diseases… Thank You Embark.
.
Thank You also for providing link to the people that still want to discuss Ninjas heritage, a dog they have never seen in real life but seem to know everything better than me, who has 20+ years experience with Siberian Huskies and met wolfdogs from low to very high content.
.
