Nikhita is one of a handful of dogs that are able max out Ninjas incredible patience.
.
This picture looks feral, but don’t forget that growling, showing teeth, snarling and warning bites into the air are just part of normal communication.
.
It is not about biting the other dog, biting is always the last measure… no dog/wolf wants to get bitten or hurt. Being hurt could be life threatening and as such needs to be avoided if possible.
.
Also these moments usually do not last… it is a matter of a few seconds at most before things are back to normal. Below, next to the amazing video of Ninja goofing on the table, you can see Ninja and Nikhita a few seconds after this discussion.

Pictures like these always make me yearn to get another dog…
.
I am sure Ninja would love to have a companion… I saw how he liked being around @kaihu_und_hadez and Roja… the pack mentality totally suits him…
.
But then comes and endless amount of choices… what kind of dog, breeder or rescue… and the most important part, where to get it.
.
I think my heart would be at a mid content wolfdog… to me it is the perfect balance of wolfy looks and still being able to manage it… the market here in Germany is a bit weird… some breeders mislabel their wolfdogs, give them a different content than they actually have… there are some high content breeders, there are some low content breeders but good medium content ones I really do not know…
.
It was really nice having Smilla around, she taught me many valuable lessons… and each day I come across her pictures or those of other wolfdogs such as Nikhita above, which comes from a french breeder.
.
I know the yearning to have another dog here will pass… but right now I really miss a second dog.
.
Would love a dog like Ninja… who was in a bad situation and needed rehoming… but the puppy stage is equally nice to experience…
.
Don’t worry… I won’t just go and get an animal… I’d put a lot of thoughts into it first.
.
Oh I caught up with my messages, yesterday… I am so proud… Instagramnshows no more unread messages…

I have such a bad conscience… comments and messages pile up and I have no clue how to catch up with things.
Often when I am overwhelmed by reactions to videos/posts/stories it paralyzes me… and then they pile up unanswered. It sucks… I find it impolite myself to not get reactions to my dm’s and imagine that each and everyone thinks the sane… and this makes it even worse 😐😐
It is also not smart from an Instagram-algorhythm point of view… slowly the calculated relationship decays and the posts become invisible. I do not mind, it is an appropriate punishment for my inability to properly interact.
.
Just give me a bit more time, I’ll catch up with all the messages and hope to appease with this beautiful cheerful Ninja-face.
I’ll put up other shots I edited today as story in a bit.. wonder which one you’d have chosen.

Occasionally I have still problems with my lungs so I need to slowly return to make larger hikes…
.
Today we had a 14mile//22km hike along the riverside… it was warm and humid but the forest provides lots of shadows and of course there is always cool water at the floodplains. There are lots of hidden coves and the trees emit a constant spray of cool drops… Ninja loved it…
.
I got called „a cruel stupid moron and troll“ because I said being outside with your dog is more fun to them than a treadmill… OK 😀😀

So many outdated, harmful and even dangerous advice… it is giving me a headache.
So You get a serious grumpy face compilation today… shot in small bursts, just as we did in the army machine gun training 😁😁
It does help the camera to refocus as you can see 😊

People often write personal messages to ask how I train Ninja. So here, again, I’ll sum it up.
.
I am not a dog trainer, but this is what I found useful.
.
The method we are using is called Marker Training… basically you reward good behaviour using a marker… I simply say „yes“ when Ninja does something right and always followup with a reward.
A reward must be a reward in your dog’s eyes, not yours 😁😁
Ninja loves following rewards attention > running > food > playtime
The higher value food I use the higher up food moves… if I use pure meat in pieces it is a very high reward… kibble is a very low one…
Usually I cut up dried duck meat in small pieces, about half a fingernail size… it is not the size of the reward that matters, but the amount of rewards.
.
We start training with „training“ and end it with „and over!“ when we end.
.
Basically no matter what I try to achieve… I reward every tiny bit that leads towards the behaviour I want… If e.g. I want him to come „here“ I reward – at the start – even a look at me… and then fine tune it more and more.
.
1) look at me
2) a few steps towards me
3) coming close
4) sitting in front of me
5) sitting straight in front of me
6) sitting straight in front of me and looking at my face
.
This process takes a while… but the dog will learn to offer behaviour… behaviour he thinks is what you want… but you only reward the behaviour you want the dog to do.
.
This will eventually lead to be fun for both… the result is what you see and love in the videos…
.
I believe that any task you do with your dog leads to bonding… and that was the initial goal of our training… having an obedient dog was only a side effect.
.
I believe that everyone can have a very obedient dog by training just 5 minutes each day… it is not really too much to ask for… 5 minutes before giving evening food. It is what we did…

Swipe right for take-outs!

Sometimes it is really difficult to get a nice shot of Ninja… he knows that I love the goofing around… and when he does not know what to do… he will start to offer different behaviour.
This goes so far that he has trouble listening to the actual commands I give, because of the praise and attention he got goofing around… this is what that looks like 😁😁

It has been a tough couple of days… lots of catching up on paperwork and appointments but now everything seems to be on track… a few more appointments next week but the worst lies behind us and now we are looking forward for a nice chilled weekend.

Hopefully you had a great week and have a fun/adventurous/chilled/exciting weekend ahead…

I took these pictures 5 years ago on my Casio „Point and Click“-camera.
.
Even after all these years they are some of my favorites and resemble the start of my photography. I noticed that Ninja can look a lot more intense if he focuses on something and how the sunset sun brightened his eyes.
.
I did not understand these things well back then and also held the camera above the eye-line, which I try to avoid now…
So here it is… I thought the #throwbackthursday might be a great way to show off my older favorite shots.
