Yesterday @redwolfsanctuaryrrc asked in preparation of an upcoming storm „How do you prepare for bad weather?“
.
This instantly reminded me of this… the craziest hike of last year in switzerland, where we hiked full of confidence into the fiercest snow storm I have ever experienced.
.
This is one of my favorite shots ever that I made as we reached the sheltered valley.
.
The ice-crust and snow on Ninja’s face show perfectly how stormy it has been. I love how his eyes pop, since everything else is covered with snow/ice 😊 and his posture and you can see that he still has a lot of fun 😊 He is simply in his element.
.
We are crossing fingers and paws for our friends at the sanctuary and send them some warm thoughts.

Today Leotie left to return to her home. I am so going to miss her.
.
I am in the middle of cleaning up and miss the little pestering Fox already… it is so quiet all of a sudden and I am paranoid about it… Silent Fox usually means that she was busy with something (not necessary a bad thing, she likes to play with her toys).
.

It had been a very busy night. Leotie was quite impudent, teasing Ninja for quite some time.
Ninja is incredible patient and rather prefers a disadvantage if it means to avoid a fight.
At first he held Leotie to the ground, to show her that he is stronger, but that fired up the cute little devil. Eventually he growled at her to keep her away.
But she continued to nag him… until he lost his patience and snarled at her… he did that only half a second… Leotie was totally surprised as it was the first time Ninja showed her that he really did not tolerate this behavior any longer… and sprayed Ninja like a skunk with her anal gland 👃😝😀😀
Had to shower poor Ninja to get rid of that smell. The last time I showered Ninja was probably more than a year ago. Huskys have self cleaning fur and do not smell… so it is not really needed… you can brush them to get the worst mud off… but usually Ninja lays down, the mud dries, he stands up shakes and is clean 😁😁
Oh.. those two were playing together again… Ninja does not hold a grudge 😊😊

Hah… today we finally had some sun. We instantly went for a hike as I wanted to show You how I make these shots.
.
The next picture shows the raw image of the first, so you can evaluate the editing 😀🙈
.
The third picture shows how, I set up this shot. I wanted Ninja to have a bit rim light, so his outer edges would light up nice.
The problem is that you take the pictures against the sun. Which will usually either burn out or totally darken the picture. You could counter this by lightening Ninja up… either by using a flash, a reflector or other forms of lighting (e.g. dreaming of a @rotolight, wish I could afford it)
Now it is possible to expose for the dog without burning out the rest of the picture.
I used a reflector and leaned it to a tree (anyone available for assisting? 😊😊) so it would light up Ninja and a bit of the tree.
Reflectors are really cheap and easy to transport, that is why I like to use them.

Today’s live video shows this spot… it does not look like much with wide angle (cell phone) and gets better as you narrow the field of view, basically comparable to focussing on details.

Sadly the sun hid under a cloud till after sunset so wr did not have optimal light.
If you nevertheless compare the cellphone footage and the picture I think the difference is quite noticeable 😊

I wish I could have provided a magical sunset picture 😊 but part of being authentic also means to show a picture from this „shoot“. Ninja did his job well, he posed very patient and natural. He is also not as serious as he appears here 😊

Despite the rain, the mud and the flood I prefer to be outside over staring at my screen, realizing that I should work on my media kit…

The past days I successfully escaped into the „last kingdom“ first 2 seasons… but now I am done with it staring at my screen 😁
.
I just don’t like to „advertise“ my skills… 😁
.
Ah well… there is „True Detective“ had not seen that in a while… and I love intro and the song of the first season… moody, gritty, dark…
.
Maybe that is why todays picture turned out a bit dark 😁😁
Often what I watch ( 2nd screen) or listen to jas a huge effect on my edits…

Today I have not a lot to say… the constant wind, rain and mud is wearing me down a bit. The next days do not promise to become any better.
Ninja is fortunately very easygoing and days like this do not bother him much, for some time at least.
Tomorrow we have 90% chance for rain but also a chance for the sun to break through now and then, so hopefully we will be able to capture a nice moment.

„I will start with photography, one I get a camera!“ Is something I hear often.
.
Why wait? Why not start right now? Sure you will not be able to blur the background well…
You can improve perspective, composition… get started to better understand light…
There are plenty of amazing tutorials everywhere!
.
This is how I started… with the worst possible camera on the cheapest smartphone 😁😁
Rolling shutter, bad exposure, not the slightest bit of sharpness… but that did not keep me from trying to improve… and so I did…
.
Even now, I have one of the cheapest cameras with one of the cheapest lenses, because I am on a tight budget.
Ofc I dream of proper gear, a nice lens, maybe full format, proper lighting equipment… but at the same time I am proud that I am able to capture these shots with my gear…
.
So, stop with excuses look at some tutorials and put what you learnt into practice… 😊
