Since roughly a year we are using the Furbo Dog Camera, @furbodogcamera and use it more often that I initially expected.

Ninja does not have separation anxiety, he is neither destructive nor loud. So you could expect to have little use for the Furbo Dog Camera. Nevertheless it does give you security by simply opening the Furbo App and being able to see what your dog is doing. I am certain we have all been in the situation when we get delayed more than anticipated, e.g. via traffic, long queues at the supermarket, a prolonged meeting, etc…
In these situations I find myself thinking about my dog and losing focus on the task at hand. But with Furbo I can easily see how Ninja is doing and instantly see that he is all right.
Should Ninja seem excited I can watch and listen through the app what is going on, e.g. if a horde of barking dogs is passing by, the neighbor starts to drill, or if there is simply someone ringing the doorbell.
With the built in microphone I can talk to Ninja, for example to calm him, send him to his bed or simply get him in front of the camera (in case he is in another room)
Furbo also has a built in function to throw treats, that can easily distract Ninja from a stimulus.

As a conclusion, I’d say that the Furbo has become a very useful item for me and I do not want to miss it. Most likely it would be a nice gift for christmas, especially now that it is on sale (reduced by 44%) for christmas.

We are finally back and rested from our long trip. I made a lot of pictures and instantly fell in love with most of them.
.
I spent the last few hours editing the pictures of our first day – streamed it live on our Discord server https://discord.gg/SGMhF3m – so if you were among the ones watching You already know a few of the pictures 😊 and you were able to follow my editing process 😊

We stopped here at the road between Bernau and Todtmoos as there is a spot with lots of beautiful rocks and for trees on the other side of the valley.
You can see Ninja here as the sun was setting and it gave the fir trees on the other side this beautiful blue shadow. I loved the contrast.
From our past stories you may recognize this rock as I directed Ninja to pose on this spot. You can really see how comfortable Ninja was, even though he wanted to return to the car at first, because he did not understand why we stopped there and he was walking without leash and harness 😆 eventually he realized that we stopped to make pictures.
The rock here is directly at the road and I was taking pictures from below the line of sight, so some of the passing cars probably wondered about ‚the wolf‘ 😆

The past days I got a lot of questions about the snow… We were driving from Freiburg to Bernau and found a lot of snow on the way ☃️❄️
.
Ninja ate raw chicken, the bones and salmonella are not really a problem. Raw bones are really soft, you can cut them with a knife. When you hear the bones they may splinter and be harmful. This goes for all heated bones, do not feed heated bones or those that are made to carry a lot of weight.

Ninjas ‚Woof‘-face

This is how Ninja looks when he does a ‚Woof‘. Unlike the other picture, where I commanded Ninja to woof and he was awaiting my reaction, this is his expression, after we goofed around and he already knows that I like his goofing around, because we goofed around together before I took the picture… There is no ‚expectation‘ in his eyes, just a sincere ‚goofy woof‘.
I think it’s important to differentiate, because of one being a reaction to a command and the other a mutual communication.
Someone mentioned that he looks fierce, but that is not the case… The muzzles are lowered, the nose is not wrinkled, the ears are not laid back aggressively, just a bit ’submissive‘.

I saw the trailer the new movie Togo and was very touched by it. Hey, I am a grown man, but I had tears in my eyes when I saw the trailer, heck, even now as I think of it.
„…all along what he lived for… was me!“
I wonder (or wish) if it was the same with Ninja. I recall that I had to get Ninja right away after watching it and hold him tight.
I do not know why exactly, but it was a mix of realizing how happy and lucky and gifted I am, to have Ninja in my life. But also a tiny bit of wonder if I deserve him at all, if I am not sometimes to harsh to him. I do not know, it was too many emotions all at once…
Someone sent me a message a while back that you can check the ancestry of your dog and it seems that via his sepp-alta line he is a far offspring of Togo.
I did not check it, but it does seem plausible as Ninja has an amazing musher bloodline and was not bred for his looks. So might there be a spark of Togo in him? 🙂 It is a really nice thought 🙂

Wonder if I manage to watch the movie at all… „Never Cry Wolf“ was one of the first movie where I noticed that it affects me a lot when animals get slaughtered… After „Dances with Wolves“ I stayed away from such movies, thus never watched „Hachiko“, because I know it will affect me a lot.
I recently read a book about the North Pole and they left a husky behind in the Ice and I could not even bear that. I was really angry that they can leave such an animals behind.
I will most likely wait till Togo can be watched at home and turn if off when it becomes too much.
Do such movies affect You? Can You describe such a moment?

Approaching Christmas we have a lot to do and I notice Ninja misses attention. When I turn my attention towards Ninja and the other dogs they react very happy and that is so cute. There is no jealousy, they just approach and ask for cuddles. It is difficult to pet 4 dogs with 2 hands 😆
It is easy for me to get lost in ‚work‘ so
I set alarms as reminders to stop what I am doing and spend more time with the dogs.
I will have 2 or 3 more stressful weeks before it gets much better again, so I am not to worried. I will head over to the dogs for some extended cuddles and letting them run outside now, before I get back to work.

Ninjas happiness in the snow is fascinating. Always a level higher than usual.
Right now it is sunny and freezing and the only snow I can see is far at the horizon at the top of the Belchen Mountain.
Hopefully we will get some more snow in the coming weeks. It will be so much fun to see the dogs dash around 😊
Today I do not know what to write, can’t think of an interesting it cute anecdote to share, as my mind is still focused on the tasks I have to finish. I hope You enjoy this picture nevertheless 😊

This is Ninja’s Monday face… captured on a Saturday though. He stood like that for a good minute, pinching his eyes together and looking lovely serious.
I don’t think I ever had a Monday face, as my work was my focus interests. I loved to come to work and also to stay late. Hence I find the whole idea „oh noes, have to go back to work“ difficult to emphasize. Do You like Your job or are You in a Monday mood today?

Early morning we had 1 millimeter of snow, which has molten and left us with foggy and wet weather.
The dogs are very relaxed as we had a long walk on Saturday and Sunday. They just nap 🐺💤🐺💤🐺💤🐶💤
I am tired as well as I prepared a project till 04:00 this morning. This means we will spend a very relaxed somewhat lazy Monday.

Wish You all a happy first Advent.
When looking to the horizon I have always seen this tall mountain far at the horizon.
The past week it was covered in white and I really craved to see it up close. So with no idea how to get there I just took Kaihu, Hadez and Ninja ❤️ and started to drive there.
The closer I got the higher the surrounding mountains got. I became a bit uncertain about the mountain’s location. My training as a helicopter pilot in the German Army Aviation Forces helps me to reliably orient in such cases, but I almost wanted to give it a more ‚researched approach‘ when we stood at the base of the mountain. I was so happy to see the snow and not so much when I saw how big it was.
My hiking app let me know that the mountain is the Belchen… at 1414m it is the 4th tallest mountain in the Black Forest.
We started to descend and it is a beautiful hike… It was not very steep, but was steadily leading up. We came across beautiful pastures as well as nice patches of fir trees and mossy rocks…
Do you do see something in the distance and just want to check it out? I am… I found a great deal of cool spots this way. I used to stop for a quick hike even on long distance travels if the area looked truly beautiful. I also remember these spots and want to go back there to visit them.

At the Belchen it was really nice, though next time I will park halfway up 😆😆 and took some time to make pictures such as this one 😊
.

I want to answer some of the questions I got about yesterdays giveaway contest.

Why CBD Oil for dogs?
I chose today’s picture as an answer to this question. Ninja’s eyes and chaps are, at times, sore.
We usually treat it with Cortison for 2 weeks and they will heal up and be good for some time.
Cortison helps for some time, but its use should be limited.
If the CBD Oil we just started using helps to soothe this, why should I not use it?
.
There are other uses as well. e.g. we hope that it does help with Kaihu’s hips. Kaihu has HD and at times, e.g. when it is cold and damp as it is now, is in pain. Of course we can give him pain killers such as Metacam, but the better solution might be to just give him CBD Oil.
.
There are plenty of other reasons, e.g. it helps old dogs, helps the immune system, allergies, anxiety, etc…
.
I think it is wrong to expect miracles from CBD Oil. But I want to try. I will be very happy with any improvement. Why not use a natural remedy over a chemical one?
.
Does my dog get high? Can I use 8t for myself? 🤪
.
Well actually it does neither make dogs addicted nor does it make them high as there is less than 0.2% THC in CBD Oil.
In a nutshell, dogs and humans have a natural Cannabinoid System in their body. The CBD Oil connects to the system and helps balance this system.
So You can take it, it will help you, but not make you high… not even if you use too much, you will only get sleepy.

Again, if it helps Ninja, why shouldn’t I use it?
.
